Electric & Power Indonesia (EPI) 2026 — Southeast Asia's most influential exhibition for the power and energy industry — has just concluded at Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo). Held from September 2–5 and organized by Pamerindo Indonesia, part of Informa Markets, the show ran alongside Renewable Energy Indonesia and Energy Efficiency Indonesia, bringing together equipment manufacturers, EPC contractors, utilities and project developers from across the ASEAN region.

For plant owners and engineers across Southeast Asia, one question dominated booth conversations: how do you keep power reliable at an industrial park, mine or island facility where the grid is unstable — or simply not there? At Booth 2001, Fortrust Power Control Technology (Qidong) Co., Ltd. presented its complete answer: core power generation hardware, a multi-energy microgrid solution, and a cloud-based intelligent O&M platform for power plants.

Why Indonesia Is One of the Toughest Markets for Power Equipment

Indonesia stretches across more than 17,000 islands. Outside the main Java–Bali grid, industrial parks, mines and plantations routinely face voltage fluctuations, unplanned outages — or no utility connection at all. Add year-round tropical heat, humidity often above 80%, salt-laden coastal air and monsoon conditions, and ordinary control electronics degrade fast.

At the same time, demand is surging. Under PLN's RUPTL 2025–2034 electricity supply plan, Indonesia targets 69.5 GW of new generation capacity over the next decade — on top of roughly 100 GW already installed — with average electricity demand growth projected at about 5.3% per year. Around 71% of the new capacity is allocated to independent power producers, and industrial expansion, mining and data centers are driving much of the load. For project owners, that combination means one thing: power systems must run reliably far from service networks, in harsh climates, with minimal on-site staffing.

What Fortrust Showcased at Booth 2001

1. Generator Set Controllers for Harsh Outdoor Duty

As the control core of any power station, Fortrust genset controllers — including the GEC series on display — deliver fully automatic start/stop, voltage and frequency regulation, comprehensive fault protection and continuous data monitoring. Designed for wide compatibility and stable long-term operation, they are built to keep running in the high-temperature, high-humidity outdoor conditions typical of Southeast Asian industrial sites, for both new-build and retrofit power plants.

2. Engine Governors, Actuators and Sensors

Around the controller sits a complete chain of speed-control and sensing components: electronic speed controllers such as the C2002, precision actuators, and speed, temperature, pressure and level sensors. Fast response and accurate speed regulation directly address the speed fluctuation and unstable loading that shorten engine life on weak-grid sites, while robust construction keeps failure rates low over years of continuous service.

3. Microgrid Solution for Industrial Parks and Remote Sites

The live microgrid model was one of the busiest spots at the booth. It recreates a real industrial-park power scene — utility supply, small wind turbines, PV arrays, backup gensets and battery storage — and shows how the energy units interact: one intelligent dispatch layer switches sources automatically as load changes, handling peak shaving and backup changeover without operator intervention. For independent factory zones, industrial parks and remote mining projects across Southeast Asia, where grid fluctuation and outages are a daily reality, this architecture delivers both supply reliability and lower energy cost.

4. Cloud-Based Intelligent O&M Platform for Power Plants

Hardware and microgrids are only part of the story. Fortrust's cloud O&M platform integrates remote monitoring, data acquisition, fault early-warning, remote commissioning, maintenance records and unified multi-station management. For overseas projects where sites are far away, skilled labor is expensive and fault response is slow, the platform enables genuinely unattended operation and full-life-cycle digital management of power plants.

Grid Only, Diesel Backup or Full Microgrid? Choosing a Power Architecture for an Indonesian Site

This was the most common technical question at the booth. The right answer depends on your load profile, outage exposure and expansion plans — but the comparison below captures what we discussed with project owners throughout the show.

DimensionUtility grid onlyGrid + diesel genset backupMulti-energy microgrid + cloud O&M
Outage resilienceFully exposed to grid failures and fluctuationsGenset carries load during outages; brief changeover gapMultiple independent sources; seamless islanding and reconnection
Energy costTariff-dependent; no peak managementFuel used only during outagesSolar and storage cut fuel and peak charges; dispatch optimized automatically
Maintenance effortMinimal on user sidePeriodic genset servicing; manual checksRemote monitoring and early warning cut site visits; unattended operation possible
Best fitUrban facilities on stable gridsSites with occasional outages; standby dutyIndustrial parks, mines, plantations, islands and remote projects

Whichever architecture you choose, the control layer determines whether it works in the field. Fortrust's controllers, governors, sensors, FEMS-series energy management and cloud O&M platform are engineered as one ecosystem — which is why many visitors arrived with a single genset question and left discussing a complete plant solution.

Proven References Behind the Booth Conversations

Discussions at Booth 2001 were anchored by real operating projects, including:

  • 33 MW diesel power station, Malaysia — long-term O&M for a multi-unit diesel plant serving the Southeast Asian market;
  • 4 MW methanol-unit power station, Daqing Oilfield — methanol-fueled generation in a demanding oilfield environment;
  • 18 MW associated-gas power project, Xinjiang Oilfield — turning flare gas into reliable on-site electricity.

What Visitors Asked Us in Jakarta

Over four days, the Fortrust team met project owners, EPC contractors, distributors and plant operators from Indonesia, Malaysia and neighboring markets. Interest concentrated on three themes: controller and governor selection for new and retrofit power plants, microgrid integration for industrial parks and remote mining sites, and cloud-based O&M for geographically scattered stations. Conversations quickly moved from product features to concrete project conditions — fuel types, ambient conditions, grid quality and expectations for localized service in Southeast Asia.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Fortrust controllers run reliably in tropical heat and humidity?

Yes. Our controllers, governors and sensors are designed for harsh field conditions — high temperature, high humidity, dust and coastal salt air — and the lineup shown in Jakarta was selected specifically for Southeast Asian duty. For outdoor cabinets, our engineers can advise on ventilation, derating and installation practice for your site.

Can your systems retrofit an existing power plant, or only new builds?

Both. The controller and governor families cover new installations and retrofit projects alike. Tell us your engine and alternator combination, and we will recommend a compatible controller, speed control and sensor package with wiring guidance.

Does the microgrid solution work on islands with no utility grid?

Yes. The solution supports both grid-connected and islanded operation. In islanded mode, the energy management system dispatches gensets, storage, PV and wind automatically, keeping frequency and voltage stable while minimizing fuel consumption — the typical scenario for Indonesian islands, mines and plantations.

How does cloud O&M help when our stations are far apart?

Each station's controllers connect to the cloud platform, giving your team real-time status, alarms, fault early-warning and historical data from a single dashboard. Remote commissioning and maintenance records reduce travel, and multi-station management lets a small team supervise many sites — the same model we operate for the 33 MW diesel plant in Malaysia.

Do you support projects outside Indonesia?

We supply and support projects worldwide, with active references across Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa, and we are expanding local distributor and service partnerships in the ASEAN region. Discussions started at EPI 2026 are continuing — contact our team to join them.
